About Us
We are a family business that Steve and Wendy Bush established in 1989. The family has a close connection with the Southern Tasmanian community as Steve grew up on a hop farm in the Derwent Valley and his brother Chris Bush is the owner of the Oast House in New Norfolk. Steve and Wendy remain the owners and recently, their daughter Bianca has moved back to Tasmania to work in the business. Their son Cameron is a qualified Diesel Fitter and regularly assists with the maintenance of plant and equipment.
How did we get to be Tasmania's largest ice manufacturer??
After 13 years of operating it was time to expand so in 1996 we purchased a small Burnie based ice company. In 1999 we acquired the Iceman operation in Launceston and expanded into Smithton and the West Coast, allowing us to service customers all over the North, North West and Western parts of Tasmania.
In 2003 we gained our HACCAP accreditation, making our ice compliant with the highest food standards in Australia. In the same year we began distributing ice into Hobart and surrounds through our Woolworths and Coles contracts.
In 2004 we entered into an arrangement with the promoters of the Latrobe Speedway as the naming rights sponsor (Mountain Dew Ice International Raceway. Be Cool…Be There.) In 2009 we transferred this sponsorship to the Hobart Speedway to allow more advertising and community involvement in Southern Tasmania.
From 2005-2008 we underwent major production upgrades, implementing an automatic bagging machine, building new truck docking facilities to allow access for semi trailers for statewide distribution and installed a 150 pallet freezer. This occurred in conjunction with purchase of a well known Hobart based company called Eski Ice in 2007 allowing us to expand our customer base in Hobart and surrounding areas.
In March 2010, to meet increasing demand, we completed an upgrade to our ice production facility which increases our ice output by 50%. During this year, we relocated our Southern Distribution Centre to PFD Food Services on Bender Drive, Lutana in Hobart.
Due to an increase in our storage requirements, in 2013 we relocated our Southern Distribution Centre to Carey Distribution in Glenorchy where we leased our own office and trucks and utilise their freezers.
In 2014 we commenced a factory extension in Shearwater which includes a new rake room. This was completed in 2016 and has doubled our bulk holding capacity and bulk output.
In 2016 as demand continued to increase and we outgrew our Southern Distribution Centre in Glenorchy and have now moved to a larger premises Mornington. This site has a 300 pallet freezer allowing room for further expansion.
